The Central Coast, NSW, Australia

The Central Coast is a picturesque region located on the east coast of Australia, north of Sydney and south of Newcastle. It stretches for around 87 kilometers, covering an area of approximately 1687.4 square kilometers. It boasts of beautiful beaches, stunning natural landscapes, national parks, wildlife reserves, charming towns, a rich cultural history and world-class entertainment.

  • Surfing and Swimming: The Central Coast has some of the best surfing beaches and ocean pools in NSW, including Avoca Beach, Terrigal Beach and Umina Beach.
  • Whale Watching: Visitors can take a whale watching cruise from Sydney to see Humpback Whales, Southern Right Whales or even Killer Whales during their migration season from May to November.
  • Waterfalls and Rainforest: The region has many picturesque waterfalls and rainforests to explore, such as Somersby Falls, Piles Creek Loop and Strickland State Forest.
  • Markets: There are many markets to explore on the Central Coast, offering a variety of local fresh produce, handmade crafts and antiques, such as Avoca Beachside Markets, The Entrance Markets and Ettalong Markets.
  • Theme Parks: For families with kids, the region offers two great theme parks: The Australian Reptile Park and Australia's largest water theme park, Wet'n'Wild Sydney.

Getting There

The Central Coast is easily accessible by car, train or bus. If you are driving from Sydney, it takes about 1.5 hours to travel along the M1 motorway. Alternatively, you can get there by train on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line, which takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes from Sydney's Central Station. Several bus services run to the Coast, including bus routes 40 and 44 from Sydney.
