Gosford Regional Gallery

At East Gosford, Gosford Regional Gallery presents changing exhibitions by local, national and international artists across three exhibition spaces. Its Foyer Gallery gives particular attention to emerging and established artists, especially those from the region, while touring and internally curated exhibitions extend the programme. The gallery sits beside the Edogawa Commemorative Garden at Caroline Bay and offers guided group visits and school learning programmes.

The Entrance Gallery and Studio

Located at The Entrance Community Centre, this professionally equipped gallery provides a coastal setting for a year-round programme of exhibitions and presentations by local and visiting artists. Its programme accommodates varied arts practice, and the space is also available for hire, with exhibition proposals invited through Central Coast Council. It is a useful place to encounter the region’s creative activity in a community setting.

Ken Duncan Gallery

This purpose-built photographic gallery at Erina Heights includes viewing rooms and a theatre for audio-visual presentations. Its work ranges across Australian landscapes, coastlines, wilderness and wildlife, as well as international subjects. Group visits can include a guided gallery tour and an audio-visual presentation. Not every photograph is hung at once, so visitors seeking a particular work are advised to check ahead.

🏺 Local History & Historic Houses

Alison Homestead

Alison Homestead, home to the Wyong District Museum & Historical Society, interprets early settlement across Wyong and surrounding districts. Displays in the homestead and other onsite buildings bring together memorabilia, photographs, furniture, toys, household items, machinery and tools. An old slab hut from Yarramalong Public School recreates a schoolroom through furniture, books, maps and related memorabilia. The research library holds historical books and files containing more than 20,000 photographs and documents.

Henry Kendall Cottage & Historical Museum

This West Gosford cottage connects several local stories: the Fagan family, the early Red Cow Inn building and poet Henry Kendall, who lived and worked with the Fagans between 1873 and 1875. The cottage dates from 1836–1840, while the adjoining historical museum, opened in 1983, houses the Brisbane Water Historical Society collection. School visits can explore everyday objects including lamps, phones, food-storage items, music and typewriters.

📜 Aboriginal Cultural Heritage & Interpretation

Bulgandry Art Site Aboriginal Place

Near Kariong in Brisbane Water National Park, Bulgandry Art Site Aboriginal Place offers public interpretation of a rock-shelf engraving site. The images include the large Bulgandry figure, thought to represent an ancestral hero, alongside wallabies, fish, a dolphin, a canoe and a bird. Stone-tool sharpening grooves provide further evidence of cultural practice. A boardwalk circles the site; visitors are asked to treat it respectfully and not walk on or touch the engravings.

🔬 Science & Natural History

Australian Reptile Park

At Somersby, the Australian Reptile Park combines wildlife encounters with interpretation of reptiles, spiders and venom research. The Weigel Venom Centre houses more than 200 venomous snakes and explains antivenom production, while Spider World includes interactive displays and a view into the spider-milking programme. Other exhibits explore crocodilians, turtles and tortoises. The park’s venom programme supplies raw venom for Australian terrestrial snake and funnel-web spider antivenom.

Central Coast Libraries Local History

Central Coast Libraries provides local-history research resources both online and through Gosford Regional Library. Central Coast Memories makes digitised historical images, photographs, subdivision plans, postcards and sound recordings available online, including a growing photographic collection dating from the 1880s onwards. Central Coast Voices offers recorded interviews with local people from the 1980s and 1990s. The Library History Team assists with historical-resource and specific research enquiries.
